Guatemala 2023

St. Criox July 2023

St. Croix, USVI

Traveling to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) offered us a unique and enriching experience that combined volunteering, cultural exploration, and a deep dive into the history of the island. This Caribbean gem presented a plethora of opportunities for us to seek a meaningful and immersive journey

Volunteering Opportunities

We volunteered at St. George's Botanical Gardens, where we helped do a practice run of the workshops they'll be offering students from their local school district. We also volunteered at a local dog rescue called Ruff Start. We cleaned cages, took dogs for a walk, and transported puppies back to the States to a local dog shelter and their forever homes.

Cultural Diversity

The island's rich cultural tapestry was a highlight for us. St. Croix has been influenced by African, Danish, Spanish, and Caribbean cultures, creating a captivating blend of traditions, art, music, and cuisine.

Historical Significance

St. Croix boasts a storied history, evident in its architecture, landmarks, and museums. The island was once a Danish colony, and remnants of that era are still visible in structures like Fort Christiansvaern and the Christiansted National Historic Site. Exploring these sites provided a window into the island's past.

Christiansted and Frederiksted

The two main towns on St. Croix, Christiansted and Frederiksted, are charming and vibrant hubs of culture and history. Christiansted offered colonial-era architecture, upscale dining, and boutique shopping, while Frederiksted offered a relaxing atmosphere, stunning beaches, and historical attractions.

Natural Beauty

From the white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, like Monk's Bath Beach, to lush rainforests where we visited the Famous Beer Drinking Pigs at the Domino Club, and underwater wonders, the island provided ample opportunities for relaxation and adventure. Snorkeling at Buck Island, hiking at Issac's & Jack's Bay, and visiting the United States' most southern point called, Point Udall, were just a few ways we connected with nature.
