Found a Board?

This Board Belongs to the Library

If you scanned a QR sticker on a surfboard, that board is part of the Surfboard Library Asilah. It is community property, not for sale and not for rent. If you found it away from the library, please return it to the headquarters in the Asilah medina or hand it to any member of the local surf community.

Making Surfing Possible for Every Child

Project Mission

To empower the children of Asilah through a community-owned surfboard library. Built on the shared responsibility of the surfing community of Asilah and protected from commercial gain, our mission is to keep surfing accessible to every child who dreams of riding the waves.

How It Works

Like a Library, But for Waves

01

Borrow

Kids register with a parent, then check out a board from the library headquarters in the medina, completely free.

02

Surf

Ride the waves of Asilah Beach. Local surf instructors will facilitate optional group sessions monthly for those needing instruction.

03

Return

Bring the board back so the next kid gets their turn. Every returned board keeps the library alive for the whole community.

These boards belong to the children of Asilah. They are never to be sold or rented for profit, by anyone, ever. No single person, company, or association owns this project. The responsibility is shared among the surfing community of Asilah, to protect it and promote it for future generations.

Kickoff Event

Surf Party on Sidi M'Ghait Beach

Sept 13

Sunday · 9:00 AM · Sidi M'Ghait Beach

A free surf party for the kids of Asilah, the day the boards are unveiled and the library officially opens.

  • 20 brand-new foam surfboards, free for kids to try in rotating sessions all morning
  • Certified surf instructors in the water at all times
  • Surf gear and apparel prizes for the kids trying the hardest, having the most fun, and encouraging others: promising spirit, not the best surfer
  • Families welcome. Come learn how the library works and sign your kids up

The Lineup

The Surfers of Asilah

The library belongs to the people who already surf these waves. Local surfers repair the boards, share the lineup with the kids, and make sure every board finds its way back to the rack.

Community

Built Together

Thank you to our sponsors and partners. Every board, every repair, and every dollar behind this program came from people who chose to show up for the kids of Asilah — on both sides of the Atlantic. We could not do this without you.
